Contact improv is a welcoming and playful practice open to people of all body types, ages, experiences, and abilities. It’s a nonhierarchical “art-sport” movement form with roots in modern dance traditions.
The dance begins when two people give weight to a single point of contact and follow gravity, curiosity, and momentum.
Participants will be most comfortable in lightweight clothing that covers the arms and legs and allows free range of motion, without bulky buttons or zippers that might hurt to lie on or roll over. Knee pads are suggested for those with touchy knees.
Try it out at our open jams (see calendar for schedule). We’re friendly and excited to meet new people. $5 to play.
Recommended for dancers/movers of all skill levels, fans of acro yoga, or anyone seeking a clear head, a surprise, and some human interaction.
